College is a time of transition and growing into the adult professionals that we all desire to be. While some of us are naturals at staying organized, public speaking, or continually staying level headed, others of us are not so lucky and can use a few pointers. Suppose there are a few things that you just know that you have issues with, such as time management and procrastination, which are really holding you back from fully developing in your courses and earning the much sought after “A”. There is no need to keep falling into the same pit hole of bad habits semester after semester. We are even still early enough in our current semester to learn and apply life changing techniques that are offered for the taking through the USF Counseling Center. These guys are really here to help you excel and you will be very impressed in all of which they have to offer you as a student.
Every week there are workshops that are held that usually take place in the counseling center conference room. These workshops are well developed and last for a few hours. As of right now, it is very easy to see how you can benefit from a workshop such as Coping Skills for College Students or Test Anxiety, since these are problems that we are regularly affected by, but there are also workshops that offer knowledge that will be beneficial to stay with you for the rest of your lifetime with the Relaxation and Stress Reduction Techniques workshop being one of them. Here you will learn how you manifest stress and techniques of how to reduce stress and anxiety. Another one being the Effective Communication workshop that will focus on developing your interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skills, a much needed skill in the work field.
Upcoming workshops for next week are as follows:
Monday 9-19 Assertive Communication
If you have issues standing up for yourself and communicating clearly, this workshop may be for you.
Wednesday 9-21 Organization 101
Ever feel as if you can’t find anything and that your time is being wasted in the wrong areas, then you may need some organizing.
Thursday 9-22 Strategies for Surviving Your Thesis or Dissertation
Many students who have an upcoming due date for a graduate thesis or dissertation may also have many questions. The student center is here to answer them.
*Each week different workshops are offered. I would recommend checking out the upcoming workshops and finding ones that you are interested in and mark your calendar. We all have a little room for improvement and the improvement offers here can go a long way.
