Calling All Chicken Salad Lovers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

The first thing on my mind after a morning full of classes is, “What am I going to eat for lunch?” I got tired of eating the same, boring meal every day—but when I discovered Chicken Salad Chick, my heart filled with joy.

Chicken Salad Chick is a chain restaurant started by stay-at-home mom, Stacy M. Brown. I was so intrigued reading the story of the business and how it started. I’m always inspired by success stories about strong, independent women following their passions.

When I first walked into the Chicken Salad Chick restaurant on Fowler Avenue, I immediately appreciated the warm and Southern atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly and the food is amazing. They sell every style of chicken salad sandwich imaginable. From traditional, to savory, to fruity and nutty, to spicy; there’s a plethora of flavors to choose from. No worries if you’re not a chicken salad person: Chicken Salad Chick also sells pimento cheese, salads, soups and signature sandwiches.

Brad and Tammy Cochran, the owners of the Chicken Salad Chick location on Fowler Avenue, have been running the business for about two years.

I tried the Cranberry Kelli, and it was honestly the best chicken salad sandwich that I’ve ever eaten. It consisted of a flavorful combination of their traditional chicken salad; dried and sweetened cranberries; slivered almonds; and lettuce, all on a soft croissant. I opted out the tomato for personal preference, but tomato is included.

My sandwich came with a pickle spear and a small buttercream frosted cookie. The cookie was a nice touch for my crazy sweet tooth.

If you are not a sandwich person, you have the option of getting a scoop of your favorite chicken salad or pimento cheese on a small bed of lettuce.

If you’re looking for a deal, they offer a meal called The Chick, which includes a choice of sandwich or scoop along with a side.

What’s really cool about this company is that they have their own app for earning reward points. After ordering my meal, I scanned the bar code that was printed on my receipt and started earning rewards seconds later. Rewards can be redeemed for free food or Chicken Salad Chick merchandise.

Chicken Salad Chick is located at 2790 E. Fowler Ave., Suite 490, just down the road from the University of South Florida campus. All USF students are given a discount, so don’t forget to bring your student ID!
