Everybody has their go-to playlist of songs whether that remains in a single style or crosses over into multiple genres and artists. Whatever you choose to listen to, there is an element that is constantly present: familiarity. However, how about pushing yourself to step outside of your comfort zone and go to a concert even though you might not enjoy it? Now, I realize that this could end up being a very costly pastime, but it is well worth it. Go out and spend your dollars on experiences rather than on that new shirt at the mall or internet shopping. Â
I have gone to The Driver Era and Noah Kahan’s shows on a whim thus far this year. Aside from the fact that I absolutely adore live music, regardless of who is playing, I had a genuinely amazing time at both. I initially feared that, due to the fact that I did not know much music from either artist, I would not be able to fully immerse myself in their sets. To my surprise, I found myself singing along at The Driver Era, and crying at Noah Kahan.Â
Maybe there’s something about live music that really appeals to me, but possibly there’s something that resonates with my initial notion that experiences can outweigh material possessions. Every concert I’ve ever attended is etched in my mind, and I value my recollections of them. These memories are more valuable to me than anything else, and I would rather spend my money on something that cannot be lost or misplaced, unlike a piece of clothing. That is why I urge you to go to that concert, attend that music festival, and tune into that street musician. These events you encounter in life will be your most cherished memories.
P.S. Try to never skip the openers at a show!! Some of my favorite performers first became known to me as concert openers.
