College, with all the tests, quizzes, papers and homework, can become overwhelming fast. Sometimes I get so caught up in my grades, I don’t realize I’m sacrificing my peace of mind. Especially with midterms going on, I feel like I can’t catch my breath. So, when my best friend Emma called me on her way back to campus asking me if I wanted to go to the beach for sunset, I saw the perfect opportunity to have some fun and clear my head.

She pulled up to my apartment, and I ran out with a big smile on my face and hopped in the car. Next thing you know, we were flying down the highway blasting oldies! We always go to the beach on Treasure Island, and once we got there, we parked at this little shop, ran across the road and started walking to the water.

This was the first time I had been to the beach since the first weekend of school, and I didn’t realize how much I needed it!! As soon as I saw the ocean, I felt better. The water was choppy and rough, with huge waves rolling in. When we first got there, we set up our towels, took pictures and ran around in the surf. It had been rainy for most of the day, so we weren’t expecting anything too crazy, but once the sun started to set, the sky was filled with oranges, pinks and yellows. Looking at the sky, thinking about life and just enjoying the moment made me feel so happy and really relieved some of the stress of school and midterms.
