Ayla Horan is about to enter her third year at the University of South Florida. This is her first semester being involved with Her Campus and she holds the position of Sorority Liaison. She is a sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated. Ayla is from up north and absolutely loves the south.
Her Campus: Why did you join Her Campus? What do you like about it?
Ayla Horan: I joined Her Campus because I saw how much my roommate, Ashley Harnish, liked it and what she did for it. I wanted to start writing about what is happening on campus and spread more news around the world. What I like most about Her Campus is that it is very woman empowering and the members really do work together to better the organization and USF campus.

HC: What is your major, and what plans do you have after graduating?
AH: I’m a double major in Spanish and international studies. After graduating, I plan to attend law school and focus on immigration law.
Â
HC: Where are you from? Do you like your hometown?
AH: I am from New Jersey and although I wanted to leave badly, I really like going back in the summer. Where I am from, we have a mix of everything. We have beaches and farms, but we also have a lot of fun options for going out at night.
Â
HC: What brought you to USF?
AH: When applying for college I only applied in the south because I love the warm weather. Florida has diversity and I’ve always loved USF. Luckily they offered me scholarships too.
Â
HC: Are you involved in other organizations? If so what positions do you hold?
AH: I have studied abroad twice, once to Costa Rica and another time to Argentina. I became a GloBull Ambassador my sophomore year. I am also a sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated since fall 2013 and I have held positions of secretary, public relations and vice president.
Â
HC: What is your favorite thing about USF?
AH: My favorite thing about USF is just walking around the campus. I think we have the most beautiful campus. So beautiful it makes me cry. During the day while walking around there is always something happening. USF has so many diverse students and I love that everyone here cares about their studies. Students are always at library (I love the fact that it is open for 24 hours). Walking around at night it is really peaceful and I feel safe.
Â
HC: What is your favorite quote?Â
AH: As far as life:
“Take pride in how far you’ve come. Have faith in how far you can go. But don’t forget to enjoy the journey” ~ Michael Josephson
Â
As far as relationships:
“If you love a flower, don’t pick it up. Because if you pick it up, it dies and ceases to be what you love. So if you love a flower, let it be. Love is not about possession. Love is about appreciation.” ~ Osho
Â
HC: What advice do you have for incoming freshman?
AH: My advice to incoming freshman, is to step out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and get to know people. Most definitely get involved with on campus organizations and community service because it will only help out out in the long run. Be smart about relationships because it is a whole different ballpark in college. Always remember academics come first, you are here for a degree.
Â
HC: Who is your role model?
AH: My role model is my mother. Because of the mistakes she has made in life, I’ve learned the correct way to pursue my dreams. I admire her strength, humor, selflessness that she has kept through all the bad times. I hope to grow into being as great of a woman as she is and give her the world.
Â
HC: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
AH: If I could go anywhere in the world it would be Latin America with a backpack. I have a passion for Hispanic culture and I want to be able to travel to every country in Latin America until I find one that suits me perfect and where I can stay.
