Meet Gabrielle Rios, a writer here at Her Campus USF! Gabi always goes above and beyond to write amazing articles and up-to-date content. Here at HC we just wanted to give a shout-out to Gabi and show our appreciation for all of her hard work. Read more about her below!
Her Campus: Why did you join Her Campus? What do you like about it?
Gabrielle Rios: Ever since I was in high school I’ve been dreaming of writing for a magazine. So, when I learned about Her Campus this summer I knew it would be a dream come true! I love being a published writer through Her Campus and the opportunity to write about so many topics I would never have written about before. Â
Â
HC: What’s your major and year at USF?Â
GR: I’m studying Spanish and I’m in my fourth year (second year at USF as I’m a transfer student).
Â
HC: What’s your academic and/or career goals?
GR: After I finish my undergrad I hope to pursue a master’s degree in Digital Journalism and Design at USFSP. My dream job would be as a travel writer/journalist/photographer. I would love to travel the world as part of my job!
Â
HC: Where are you originally from?
GR: I was born in Grand Rapids, MI, but lived in Recife, Brazil from when I was 6 months old until I was 16 when I moved to Florida.
Â
HC: What are your hobbies?Â
GR: My favorite hobby right now is photography, although I’d love to turn it into more than just a hobby! I also love chilling at the beach and watching FRIENDS, my favorite TV show.
Â
HC: What is your favorite quote?
GR: As I’ve been reflecting on all the changes that have happened in my life, this quote has become my favorite: “We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea…” ― C. JoyBell C.
Â
HC: Who’s your role model?
GR: I would say my role model is my grandmother. She made some big decisions and sacrifices for her children to give them a better life, and I am only here today because of her.
Â
HC: If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
GR: Oooh, that’s a hard one, so many places! But I would love to live in Spain and Italy at some point.
Â
HC: What has been your favorite class at USF?
GR: My favorite class has been Advanced Spanish Conversation. I love this class because it’s my first Spanish class that I get to feel I’m really learning the language, and it’s an awesome feeling!
Â
HC: What’s a fun fact about you?
GR: Well, I think it’s really fun that I’ve never broken a bone! I’m also an only child, and I actually love it! I got to really become friends with my parents since I had no siblings around, and I’m so thankful for that.Â
