The Most Valuable Collegiette™ is awarded every month to members of Her Campus USF who participate the most. Members can receive points for writing articles, getting high views on their articles, attending meetings, events and promoting Her Campus. One of our MVC’s this semester is Jasmin Lankford. She is a sophomore majoring in mass communications with a focus in journalism magazine and a minor in creative writing. She typically writes for Fashion Friday and News sections and always picks up extra articles when needed. Find out more about this MVC below!
Her Campus: Why did join Her Campus? What do you like about it?
Jasmin Lankford: “I joined Her Campus because I wanted to get involved on campus. I was looking for a place to make connections and build my writing portfolio. I love being about to write about topics I am interested in and passionate about. I like coming up with new content our readers will enjoy.”
HC: What’s your academic and/or career goals?
JL: “My academic goals are to acquire new knowledge on different subjects and graduate with my major and minor. My career goals are to write for a magazine or newspaper and publish a fiction novel.”
HC: Who is your celebrity crush (guy or gal)?
JL: “My celebrity crush is John Legend. He is so handsome and his singing voice is amazing!”
HC: What is your favorite quote?
JL: “I am always on the hunt for new quotes and Bible verses, so it is difficult to stick with one favorite. Right now my favorite quote is from Maya Angelou: ‘My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return.’”
HC: What do you turn to for inspiration?
JL: “For inspiration, I usually bounce ideas off of my friends to see what they would like to read about. I also like to look online at fashion blogs, online shopping sites, Pinterest and Polyvore. If it is crunch time on any assignment, I often think of a floral painting of mine hanging by my bed. It has Proverbs 31:25, “She is clothed with strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future.” That Bible verse inspires me to push forward in anything with faith and without fear.”
HC: What are your favorite places around USF and the surrounding area? Why?
JL: “My two favorite places around USF and the surrounding area are the library and Mojo’s Books Records Coffee and Tea on Fowler Avenue. I love the library because of the books and the Starbucks. Plus I can actually get work done in the library. I love Mojo’s because they have books and records at reasonable prices. They have a large collection of The Beatles so I have to budget how much money I spend there before I am completely broke!”
HC: What advice do you have for incoming freshman?
JL: “My advice for incoming freshman is to be willing to step out of your comfort zone a little. Joining campus organizations requires communication with people you may not know and that can be scary, but it will be worth it. I have found many friends whom are more like family within my organizations at USF.”
HC: What is your favorite class you’ve taken at USF?
JL: “So far, my favorite class at USF has been a creative writing class, Narration and Description. One of the things I loved most about this class was the freedom to write about many different subjects. In addition to writing stories, we also wrote plays and memoirs. I branched out of my own norm and wrote beyond the topics I was most comfortable with.”
HC: What’s a fun fact about you?
JL: “A fun fact about me is that I just started a blog about my favorite band, The Beatles. You can check it out here!”
HC: Who’s your role model?
JL: “My role model is my mom. She has taught me how to be a Godly woman. She always encourages me to do what is right and follow my dreams in the process. She also inspires me to be passionate about life and love.”
