Andy Vu of Phi Delta Theta is in his second year at USF and is working towards big achievements. After shadowing and assisting former chairperson Miguel Flores, Vu is ready to take on the role of philanthropy chairperson. With the help of several brothers along with contributions from the USF and neighboring communities and organizations, Vu is prepared to raise money and strike out ALS for good.
For many years it has been tradition for Phi Delta Theta to conduct Graffiti for Gehrig, an opportunity to raise money by painting on Phi Delta Theta property that either relates to the fraternity or Lou Gehrig, an honorary Phi Delt. In the past it has contributed to the $4,000, along with the Ms. Athena event that Vu assisted Flores in hosting.
To obtain even more success and add a personal twist on fundraising, Vu wanted to implement something new. Vu’s first planned event is the Strike out ALS event which allows sororities and fraternities to to participate in a softball tournament. Other school organizations will be encouraged to join and participate as well. Not only is the softball tournament going to be raising money but Vu is holding a fundraiser at Chipotle where half of every purchase made during the specified time will be donated for ALS. In doing so, Vu is optimistic it will help bring in the cheddar.
The Strike out ALS softball tournament will be held at the University of South Florida’s softball field on April 1, 2017 from 12pm to 4pm.Â
