The beauty world has been buzzing about various oils in recent years, with Argan oil being a favorite and coconut oil a DIY darling. All natural, easy to get, and inexpensive, coconut oil can be used a myriad of ways. Â
-
Cuticle oil
Harsh acetone nail polish removers can leave cuticles dry and unsightly. Nourish them by rubbing a little bit of coconut oil on your cuticles after your mani dries.
-
Dandruff Treatment
Dandruff is caused by a fungal infection of the scalp, causing flaky skin particles in your hair. It’s not dangerous, but can be extremely annoying. Coconut oil is extremely moisturizing and has antifungal properties that can help control dandruff. Scoop out a handful of coconut oil and rub into your scalp. It will melt as you work with it. It is recommended to wear a shower cap if you leave it on for at least twenty minutes, but overnight is an option as well. Make sure to shampoo your hair at least once, possibly twice in the shower.

Hair Mask
As stated above, coconut oil is a highly effective, natural moisturizer. Instead of just focusing on the scalp, work coconut oil into your hair from roots to end. Cover with a shower cap and wait at least twenty minutes, then shampoo it off in the shower for silky, glossy hair. If your hair is damaged, it’s good to treat your hair with oil once a week, or at least once a month.
-
Scrub
The Pinterest recipes for DIY body and lip scrubs are endless, so create a new board and have fun crafting! Coconut oil makes an excellent base for a sugar scrub that exfoliates and moisturizes.
-
Make-up Remover
Many collegiettes™ struggle with stubborn waterproof mascara and liner. Coconut oil breaks down stubborn makeup and won’t leave your delicate eye area burning or dried out. Simply rub on your eyelids and wipe off with a cotton ball.
