When every other college student was heading to the beach for Spring Break, I was on a plane to Michigan.

I received strange looks from all of my friends and coworkers when I told them that my plans for the break were to go to the little town of Concord, Michigan, where there is one stop light —that only blinks the yellow light— and the most exciting thing that has happened lately is the new addition of a Dollar General.
Why would I choose that over hitting the beach with my friends, because after all, we are already in the spring break state?
I, probably much like other students who live far from their loved ones, chose to spend my break in 20-degree weather with my family. While many people probably enjoyed their breaks of going to the beach and drinking, I would not have wanted to spend my time off of school anywhere else.

My whole family, with the exception of my mom and step dad, lives in Michigan, but I have not lived there since I was seven. My heart could not have been any warmer while surrounded by my dad, brothers, and a lot of my extended family, even in the seemingly arctic weather.

It is always a good idea to surround yourself with family, and it can heal your worries of thevsemester better than any beach I have ever been to. I do not feel like I missed out on thevcollege style spring break that we see in movies, and the memories that I made with my familyvwill last a lot longer than the blur that can sometimes occur on the average spring break.vBesides, in Florida, every day is the perfect beach day.
