Megan McCarthy does it all: the honors International Studies major is a senior, graduating a year early with am emphasis in Economics and a minor in European studies. The Portland native is also a member of St. Ignatius Institute, is a University Scholar, is the senior representative for the Standards Board of Delta Zeta, while also serving as an enrichment committee member. She is also a member of Greek Council and works as a peer tutor at the Learning and Writing Center. In choosing her major, Megan jokes that she basically wanted all the majors, and International studies was the perfect fit because it allowed her to explore politics, language, history, philosophy, and speficially economics. In her time at USF, she has met a wide variety of people from different places  cultures, which has been an eye-opening experience. Her other highlights include having one of her favorite professors publish an essay of hers, and pleding her sorority, Delta Zeta.Â
Megan knew she wanted to study abroad, and when it came time to choose the place, she decided on Oxford University in London because it was a unique experience that allowed her to have one-on-one classes with professors. While she was there she enjoyed visiting cool historical sites and studying in the exclusive Bodleian library, so prestigous that even the king or queen of England themselves cannot check out books from it! Megan’s adivce for students who are thinking of studying abroud is to go for it! It is something everyone should do, if they can, she says. Find an advisor you click with and listen to them. Megan believes that with careful planning, anyone can study abroad!
Ten years from now, Megan says she’d like to be thinking about buying a house, with a stable career (hopefully as a lawyer), and the proud owner of two German Shepards! Aww :) Can’t wait to see where the future takes you, Megan, I’m sure it’ll be amazing!
