Immigration Ban and the ACLU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFCA chapter.

A lot of things have happened in the past few weeks under the new Trump administration, especially concerning issues of immigration. President Trump issued an executive order that banned immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries to prevent them from entering the United States – which you can read more about here – which, upon its implementation, received immediate backlash from civil liberties groups and human rights watch organizations across the global community. Since the executive order was signed, a federal judge has since temporarily blocked the travel ban, preventing its complete implementation. The ban was greeted by nationwide protests and severe condemnation by global leaders.

One organization, the ACLU (the American Civil Liberties Union) has already vowed to fight Trump’s travel ban in court, filing several lawsuits in defense of immigrants and refugees. The ACLU requested a temporary, nationwide injunction against the travel ban that prevents the deportation of those stranded in U.S airports due to immigrant visas.
