Outerlands, located in the Outer Sunset, was a trendy and minimalistic style brunch restaurant. The aesthetic of the restaurant was on point and the coffee was delicious, but overall it was a little weird.
The menu was very minimalistic in the sense that it had very few items, but the food choices were anything but simple. Ingredients like “cauliflower purée” and “goat labneh” were included in the menu. One thing about the menu that was not minimalistic was the wine selection, which was larger in variety and number than the food choices. The wait staff was accommodating and nice, but were very hipster and “too cool for school”, or as a friend said in an instagram caption: “the waiters seemed like they were internally screaming”.
I ordered the cornbread benedict which had fried egg, avocado, cotija, rajas cream, and cilantro. The food was interesting, but still pretty good. The waitress suggested a side of their breakfast potatoes to share, and we took her suggestion and ordered them. The potatoes were very delicious and a great addition to our meals. The location was nice, but the vibe was again, a little weird. Kind of like we were in a high budget indie film. Overall, the food was good, even if normally I wouldn’t have ordered it.
