If you own a TV, you’ve probably at least heard of Game of Thrones. If you haven’t obssessively bingewatched all five seasons, do it now! This article will still be here when you come back – if you’re dedicated, you can probably finish the series in a few days, just in time for Sunday’s new episode. Thrones never shies away from depicting shocking, OMG, did-that-really-just-happen moments (flashback to Ramsey Bolton, um, chowing down on sausage de Theon). With that being said, Season 6, which premiered April 24th, has delivered plenty of gaspworthy scenes; here are our favorites! SPOILERS AHEAD – you’ve been warned.Â
5. Return of the Iron Isles
Balon Greyjoy’s death, while untimely, officially ended the War of the Five Kings. Who is the culprit? None other than Euron Greyjoy! With Theon returning, and his sister Yara gunning for the crown, there’s definitely a tumultuous path ahead for the Greyjoys.Â
Â
4. Tower of JoyÂ
With Bran’s increased warging abilites, the Three-Eyed Raven takes him back to the Tower of Joy, where Ned Stark confronts Ser Arthur Dayne. In the scene, we learn that Ned had a less than heroic (and truthful) defeat of Dayne – unlike the story that he would tell, Dayne was actually finished off by a knife in the back, courtesy of Howland Reed. Not so honorable now, Ned!Â
Â
3. Rickon’s CaptureÂ
Poor Shaggydog! After Ramsey Bolton kills his father (sorry, whoops, poisoned by his enemies), House Umber declares allegiance to the Boltons, bringing a captured Rickon and Osha as signs of goodwill, with the apparent head of Shaggydog, his direwolf, as proof. But House Umber was famously loyal to the Starks – is it all a ruse? Is the wolf’s head really Shaggydog? If not, it’s a dangerous ploy. Fingers crossed they make it to Season 7! Â
Â
2. Jon Snow’s ResurrectionÂ
C’mon, guys – we ALL knew this one was going to happen, it was only a matter of when and how. At the end of Season 5, it seemed all was lost – but the evidence all pointed towards a revival! When Melisandre eventually revived him, we were expecting it, but it didn’t make it any less glorious!Â
Â
1. Melisandre’s RevealÂ
Only eagle-eyed fans could have seen this one coming! In an apparent crisis of faith, Melisandre removes her necklace, which is shown several times to be if not the source, certainly a way that she channels her power. With the removal of her necklace, her true form is revealed – an ancient, frail woman, nothing like the powerful, seductive priestess that we’ve seen so far. Will Melisandre’s faith in her abilites and the Lord of Light be restored with Jon’s resurrection?Â
