As a senior graduating this month from USFSP, I wanted to share a few things that I learned in college that I hope will help or inspire you this week.
When people say time flies they mean it. While college seemed to drag on for four years, there are moments when I wish I could rewind time and hit pause. I would love to go back and have a chat with my freshman self.
Here’s what I would say if I ever got the chance:
1. Get Involved. Not only is this a chance to build your resume, it’s a chance to meet new people. You never know when you’ll find a group that you really connect with unless you try. Whether it’s a club, elective, or required class, get involved. I met some of my best friends at the most unexpected times, by showing up and getting involved.
2. Ask for help if you need it. There are so many resources on campus to help you succeed. From the career center to the student success center, accessing these resources is crucial to helping you get ahead as a student. Never be afraid to ask for help even if you’re unsure.
3. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe it’s time to change your major. Maybe a breakup or a move make you question everything. The truth is, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. Learn from your mistakes, but know that something great is usually right around the corner.
4. You’re doing great. Maybe you are undecided on your major. Maybe you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up. That’s okay. Whether you have it all figured out or not, be easy on yourself.
I believe that we all have something special to offer the world. You might not know what it is right now, but the journey of life is all about figuring it out one step at a time. You’ve got this!
HCXOXO,
Caroline B.
