Wintertime is by far my favorite time of the year.
The holidays make everything seem sweeter. Everyone has their own traditions and things to look forward to, and there is nothing like a new year approaching to help you tie up loose ends.
Also let’s face it, most of our winter wardrobes outshine those jean shorts and crop tops hanging in our closets.
One of my favorite things about the holidays is decorating to the nines. The only problem with this is trying to be an HGTV interior designer on a broke college-girl budget.
So I thought a few tips to help anyone else who wants to have their place looking like Whoville this holiday season for under $100.
1. Start by hunting for deals in the most obvious places. HomeGoods and Target are probably my favorite places to find festive décor for very low prices (comparatively). A couple throw pillows and some balsam fir scented candles can go a long way in a small space.
2. DIY whenever you can. A simple wreath can cost anywhere from $30-$200 dollars! I don’t know about you, but spending that kind of money on a round pile of pinecones covered in glitter and fake snow makes me feel a little on edge. Try scouting a place like Joann’s or Michael’s for supplies to create your own masterpiece. Better yet, go outside in nature and see what you can collect for your own homemade wreath. Â
3. Check out Goodwill or other thrift stores for steals on holiday décor. Goodwill has a combination of new and used holiday decorations that are sure to assist you in your holiday renovations. A friend of mine once bought a 6 ft pre-lit Christmas tree at Goodwill for only $15 — now that’s a bargain.
All of this talk about the Holidays makes me want to turn on Spotify’s Christmas classics playlist and dust off my storage box of string lights and garland.
I would love to hear some of your tips for holiday decorating. Happy hunting!
HCXOXO,
Caroline B.
