I Support The Girls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

I Support The Girls believes women should not have to choose between personal health and  feeding themselves. They believe dignity is dignity.

I Support The Girls (ITSG) is an organization that collects and distributes donations of new and used bras as well as packages of tampons and maxi pads to homeless women and girls.

One woman, Dana Marlowe, started ISTG out of her house in Maryland in 2015. Since then, ISTG has evolved into a worldwide movement with fifty North American and five worldwide partners , with plans to open more soon.

Through ISTG, Dana has proved that one person can make a significant difference in the lives of thousands worldwide.

Hundreds of thousands of homeless women and girls have to choose between clothes, menstrual hygiene products, and their next meal. Women on the streets may have to wear the same bra for years. This causes health problems, back pain and potential for infection, as well as the daily embarrassment and discomfort of an ill-fitting bra.

Being forced to choose between their next meal and their personal hygiene strips away the dignity of homeless women and girls every day.

Since 2015, ISTG has collected and distributed 214,000 bras, 719,000 feminine hygiene products, and has helped over 180,000 women and girls experiencing homelessness, victims of domestic violence, victims of sex trafficking, and refugees, evacuees affected by natural disasters.

If you are interested in donating, I have listed the mailing address below, as well as their website.

I am trying to gather a collection to send out in the next few weeks, so let me know if you want to donate!

My name is Chloe Thirion. I am a twenty-one year old Accounting major with a Management minor in the Honors College at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.  I currently work on campus as an RA in Residence Hall One and at a daycare for kids under three years old.    I like the simple things in life. I love shopping for office supplies. A neatly organized to-do list can make me  positively giddy. I carry a small legal pad and a pen with me so I can take notes as I need. My favorite pizza is  margherita. I love coffee, tea, and hot chocolate and I believe there is a time and place for each. I like to  daydream. My favorite thing to do is read.  I have little, little siblings-- my brother Rhett is thirteen and my sister Lilly is six. I like to be the boss; that might be obvious from the birth order situation. I might even go so far as to say I'm a control freak.    I hope to go on to get my Master's of Accountancy after my bachelor's. I like school; I tell people it's the only thing I know how to do, but I'm (half) joking when I say that.
