Major: Biology with a minor in Business
Classification: Sophomore
Nia is from Tampa but currently resides in St. Petersburg and is the President of the Caribbean Culture Exchange club. The CCE club was originally started at our fellow campus in Tampa around 1982. An interesting fact is that Nia’s parents helped start the organization in USF Tampa. Her mom is Jamaican and her father is Trinidadian, a great and unique Caribbean mix. Nia started the chapter here at the St. Pete campus in the spring of 2013 and has had an amazing turnout so far. The purpose of the Caribbean Culture Exchange club is to promote cultural awareness and recognition of people of the Caribbean within the University and the local community. Here at the St. Pete campus, Nia and the other club members hold events promoting the Caribbean culture. Recently, they held a Welcome Back Fete following the end of spring break. The event included Caribbean board games like ludi and dominoes as well as Caribbean food and music.
Aside from being president of an amazing organization on campus, Nia makes sure her academic work still goes on a good path. With a major in Biology, Nia wants to become a pediatrician. As far as future plans, she is undecided on graduate school and whether she wants to stay here in St. Pete.
* The Caribbean Culture Exchange holds meetings every Tuesday in the USC Coral Room, check it out! If interested Nia can be contacted at: niajoseph@mail.usf.edu.Â
