As we all know, October is THE craziest month for college students at USFSP.  With Halloween parties popping up left and right, intense cramming for mid-terms, and of course, the many events of Homecoming week, students sacrifice sleep to make the best out of it all. With homecoming week kicking off tonight with the first official Glo Run of USFSP, these next two weeks of October are going to be the most memorable of the fall semester.

With the high pile of midterms being added to our plates, it seems impossible to balance out time for fun and all these events, right? It’s crazy to think that we are already knee deep in the semester, and midterms have already crept up on us and skyrocketed the stress that came out of nowhere. The struggle is real and in full force when you have to make the decision to either stay in for the weekend and spend most of your time in the library with your head in the books, or hit up Party City and Tyrone mall to get last minute costume essentials to make it to one of the many Halloween parties—Mark Lombardi’s was for an amazing cause after all…right? Getting a student discount to Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens is another huge plus in embracing the great fun Halloween has to offer. My advice to you would be to get a ticket for a Thursday night and you will save a lot more money than if you were to be paying to go on a Friday or Saturday—you’re welcome.

For almost all USFSP students, homecoming week has been the talk around campus since it’s FINALLY here. A Glo Run, a carnival, a new tradition of a cardboard boat race, an alumni luncheon, a mentalist performer, the homecoming game, the Wizard of Oz themed-ball, and a completely free live performance by Wiz Khalifa—with free transportation—to Tampa, are plenty reasons to get completely pumped up for this week. With midterms finally beginning to simmer down, it’s definitely important that we live up our college experience and get out to all these events in celebration of the many hours spent studying for the midterms we hopefully all rocked. The best part of it all is that all these fun events are completely free for us, and who doesn’t like fun for free? Oh, and make sure you thank everyone you know who is involved in Harborside Activities Board because they put together these awesome events for you guys, and make homecoming week the absolute best.

With so many different events already taking place for homecoming week, you’re definitely going to want to stick around also for the following week—Halloween week. With the expected last minute Halloween parties popping up out of the blue, there are also some cool events being put on around campus to bring out our Halloween spirit. There will be the annual Haunted House put on by Harborside to pump everyone up for Halloween, followed by a costume party/dance and a costume contest with some pretty awesome prizes—you’ll definitely want to get creative with your costume.

Overall, October has a lot of great upcoming events that you definitely want to be a part of. When you get your studying out of the way and you’re finished with midterms, head on out to Harborwalk for the homecoming kickoff and find out ways you can get involved and be a part of all the fun activities of homecoming week! You’ll want to be a part of the decorating for the Halloween themed events on campus as well, so use this time to get involved in all October has to offer.

Hey guys! I'm Samantha and I'm a sophomore here at USFSP. I'm currently a Mass Communications major and an International Business minor. This is going to be my first semester with HerCampus! I'm eager to contribute some entertaining stories for all you readers out there. My last two years of high school, I was editor of my school's yearbook, so I've got a good deal of experience with writing stories about almost anything and being as creative as possible. My ideal dream would probably be to hold a career in fashion advertising, so I feel like this magazine will definitely be a huge benefit for me. I look forward to working with the awesome people who create USFSF HerCampus, and I hope you all enjoy everything we put together for you to read this year! :) XOXO
A Mass Communications Major with a passion for inspiring others.Â
