10 Shania Twain Songs Every Woman Needs In Her Life Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

There is something we need to discuss: Shania Twain is the QUEEN of feminist songs. Her music is seeping with gems that describe how perfect women are.  She isn’t a sellout, only singing about love and boys; Shania has some of the most diverse songs in the business, ranging from music about money and looks to overcoming challenges.  In a time filled with music about ‘dropping dat ass down the pole,’ or how much so and so is in love with a boy that doesn’t even notice her, Shania’s music is a diamond in the rough.  Here is a list of 10 of favorite songs that explain how fabulous women are and why you need them in your life this minute.

That Don’t Impress Me Much:

Have you ever met a boy who is a showoff? You know, the type of guy that brags about his money or car? Thinks he is dashingly handsome with his perfectly sculpted jaw line? Assumes he’s super intelligent because he’s an ~engineer~. Well, Shania has, and she is not impressed in the slightest. What she is looking for and lets be honest, what ALL girls are looking for, is a boy who has got the touch.  This song brushes off all f**kboys who think they’re the best, and shares what’s really important in a guy. No need to drop the standards you’re looking for in a man ladies, Shania’s got your back.

Honey I’m Home:

You know that misconception that woman should be in the home, doting on their husbands when they get home from work? This song pulverizes that idea.  Shania sings about how she had a long day at work and is expecting certain things from her man when she gets home.  This is a perfect song for the average working girl, and explains the kind of love, support, and admiration that should be expected when you return from home. “Honey I’m Home” is a great reminder that women can and do wear the pants too.

From This Moment On:

This is without a doubt the greatest love song ever written.  I know this is an article about how Shania’s music is a feminist icon, but that doesn’t mean that a love song cannot be included.  The lyrics in this song are moving, and Shania describes a perfect relationship where respect and love is given equally amongst partners.  After listening to this song, you’ll long for a love like the one she describes.

Up:

“Up” is an empowering song about how sometimes your life is going to be hard and suck. Don’t worry though, because when you’re at rock bottom things can only go up! Shania perfectly explains what its like to be an emotional wreck, and how one little thing in the midst of a bad day can be the tipping point that sets you off. This song is definitely one you can relate to especially when you’re on your period!

What A Way To Wanna Be:

This song could jumpstart a revolution about positive body image!  The lyrics explain how hard it is to be a woman in this day and age.  Shania explains that no one is perfect and that all the time and money that girls spend trying to achieve an unobtainable look is just not worth it. “What A Way To Wanna Be” is 1,000,000 times better than Meghan Trainor’s ridiculous song “All About That Bass,” which literally calls thin girls “skinny bitches.”  Shania does nothing of the sort, instead choosing to applaud all women, no matter that they look like, just for being women.  She understands that being a girl is hard enough on its own, and explains that being obsessed with looks doesn’t matter; what’s inside does.

Ka-Ching:

Shania comes from humble beginnings, and she explains that the world we are currently living in is toxic to our health.  Shania sings about how greedy and self-centered our society is, and how it will eat us alive one day. All we ever want is more, and this song explains how the need to buy possesses us all.  “Ka-Ching” captures the idea of putting others before ourselves, without the need to always have the next best thing.

Waiter, Bring Me Water:

You know in movies where women throw water on boys who are less than satisfactory? This song is literally that scene from a movie.  Shania sings about how boys seem to always be looking for more, and how girls feel like we aren’t enough for them.  When Shania’s guy can’t keep his eyes off a hot new thing that just walked into a restaurant, she beckons for the waiter to bring her a pitcher of water to throw on his head. Sounds weird, I know, but this song epitomizes what it’s like to be in a relationship where you’re always worried your man is going to leave you for another girl.

She’s Not Just A Pretty Face:

The ultimate feminist song, “She’s Not Just A Pretty Face” explains that women are far more than their looks. The whole song is about a plethora of different jobs that women have, and how they can do ANYTHING they want.  She describes women as champions and stars, and lets it be known to the world that women are forces to be reckoned with.

Today Is Your Day:

This is my favorite song that Shania ever has written.  She wrote this after a very hard time in her life, her husband cheated on her with her best friend and she became so depressed that she lost her voice for years.  Thankfully, our fearless hero Shania overcame that terrible time in her life, and released this perfect single.  This is truly a song about empowerment, and how everyday is YOUR day.  She explains that people are going to throw sticks and stones at you, and that life is going to kick you around, and then kick you again when you’re down.  But don’t fret because every day is YOUR DAY and you are in charge of your own future.  This song is perfect for any day, any emotion, and any person.  Who doesn’t want someone telling you how strong you are and how you can overcome anything?

Man, I Feel Like A Woman:

It wouldn’t be an article about how amazing our Queen Shania Twain is without mention of this song.  “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” is a song about how fierce and fabulous women are. This song is perfect to listen to when you and your girls want to belt out about how f**king great it is to be a woman.

Thank you, Shania Twain, for gracing the world with your phenomenal music that not only is fun to sing, but is also filled with positive messages about the world we live in.

I have a deep love for mermaids, pitbulls, swearing, and all things involving food.  Shania Twain is my spirit animal and I'm a converted Belieber.
