I, like a lot of people, had a hard time finding a resolution for the New Year’s that would be realistic and doable. Nothing really came to me so I went without a resolution. Only recently did I decide to put more effort into my skincare routine and make it my resolution. Before, I had only washed my face every other day and I would do nothing else. My skin wasn’t bad, but I started getting worried about the future. I wanted my skin to age well and I wanted to put in the effort so it would do so. After a lot of research and Pinteresting, I finally found the skincare routine for me.

My Skincare Routine

I can admit now that I am no expert, I am only recently getting into this stuff so if any of my advice doesn’t fit your skin type or you know better products/routines, then, by all means, follow that. This is just what works for me. My skincare routine is as follows:

I wash my face everyday with  Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. It is great for sensitive skin types and it is unscented which I LOVE. I have really sensitive skin, so it’s better for my skin type.

Next, I use toner after my shower to restore my PH balance, and get rid of all the redness. You can use it on your entire body, but I mostly use it on my face. I use Thayers Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel Rose Petal Toner from Whole Foods. I love the smell of rose but there are other brands and smells that work, too.

Then, I put lotion all over my body every day. I use Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. It is again, great for sensitive skin and doesn’t feel heavy.

The last thing I do daily is moisturize my skin, I use the Drench & Quench moisturizer from Bliss. It is super lightweight and really hydrates your skin. I put it on once before I do my makeup and right before I go to bed. If your skin is really oily, it may be better to not use moisturizer every day because it could cause acne.

In the shower, I wash my face with the cleanser and wash my body with body wash. Once a week I exfoliate with a scrubbing brush. If you have problems with acne ahem… “down there”… then you should first: Use baby oil on before you shower to soften the hair, exfoliate the area, shave using a men’s razor and men’s shaving cream meant for faces, pat dry, dab some rubbing alcohol to close the pores and kill bacteria, then lather on deodorant down there to prevent chafing. This is what works best for me.

Again, this skincare routine will not work for everyone. I suggest you do some research as to what type of brands and routines work for you. There will be a lot of trial and error. In the end, everybody should wash their face, wear sunscreen, and moisturize. That is the secret to having good skin that will last as you age. Eat healthy and drink lots of water and I promise you will see results.
