You may have heard of Rupaul’s Drag Race, maybe even have watched it, but have you watched All Stars? Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars combines all the drag queens of past seasons who didn’t win the crown, but are given a chance for redemption, and a place in the All Stars Hall of Fame. Each week, the queens are thrown into competitions such as lip syncing, comedy shows, and variety shows. They also have to come up with a look during elimination night that matches the theme. Both the competition and the look are judged. The two winners of the challenge then lip sync, and choose who from the bottom two they want to send home. It is a wild ride, but here are some main points on why you should be watching this season!
The Lewks
This season has been great on looks! There is also so much variety. From Trixie Mattel, a campy queen who blends 80’s barbie doll with 50’s country to Shangela, a pageant girl who has a fierce wardrobe and makeup.
The Makeup
As mentioned above, the queens are all very different, and each serve a variety of makeup looks. There are the clown makeup looks from Thorgy Thor and Trixie Mattel, to the more glamorous style like Aja, Milk, and Chi Chi.
The Talent
In the first episode, a variety show, you get to see how talented each of these queens are. There are several dancers, singers, and even a violinist and an autoharp player!
The Challenges
The challenges are really fun. Each season has a challenge called The Snatch Game. Each queen has to impersonate a celebrity of their choosing and answer questions, game show style! This challenge hasn’t come up yet this season, but it is something you should be really hyped for! This season so far has had some great challenges. This last week, each queen was given a diva and a song to lip sync to. The songs consisted of Rupaul’s own music, as well as ones poking fun at the divas. It makes for a great time, and the looks are fierce as hell.
The Awesome Guest Hosts
So far this season has seen Vanessa Hudgens, Todrick Hall, and Vanessa Williams. One guest star that is coming up and causing a hype is Nancy Pelosi. Yes, Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. It should be a fun time!
The Friendship
These queens really have each others back. Even though it is a competition, you can tell they really care for each other. They often open up together, and it is a safe place to express themselves.
The Drama
With friendship, comes drama. These queens are fighting to win, and there is always tension and shade along the way to the top! Milk especially this season has stirred the pot with her big opinions, and Trixie has had some great shady remarks. There is some really hot tea on this show!
The Representation
Representation in the media is very important, and that is something the LGBTQ+ community doesn’t see a lot of. In Rupaul’s Drag Race, the majority of queens are gay, and in past seasons of the show there have been transgender women. Another awesome part about this season is the racial diversity, which is something we don’t always see in reality shows. For example; Trixie Mattel is of Ojibwe descent, Bebe Zahara Benet is from Cameroon, and Shangela, Kennedy, as well as Chi Chi are of African American descent.
In conclusion.. Go watch Rupaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 3 on VH1, Thursday nights at 9pm MST!
