Carissa Flinders landed an internship most girls dream about. Last summer she packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles, California to intern for GUESS?, the global brand of young, sexy and adventurous lifestyle, with a complete line of apparel and accessories. After returning to Utah to finish her last year of college, she didn’t hesitate to step right into her next internship. Currently, Carissa is one of Spotify’s Campus Influencers here at the U. Her Campus Utah talked with Carissa about her experience with GUESS?, and we couldn’t wait to share it with you!
Name: Â Carissa Flinders
Graduation Year: Â 2015
Major: Â Strategic Communication
Hometown: Â Layton, Utah
Her Campus (HC): Â Your interned at GUESS? in L.A. over the summer. What did your job entail?
Carissa Flinders (CF): Â I was the PR and Special Events intern for GUESS?. I would help brainstorm and execute events, reach out to partners for gift bag donations (such as beauty or food brands), work on increasing celebrity product placement, ship clothing samples to different magazines and TV shows, and facilitate clothing pulls for stylists.
HC: Â Was there such thing as a typical day?
CF: Â No! I feel like everyday something new would come up, but that’s what made my job fun and exciting.
HC: Â What was the best part about interning at GUESS?
CF: Â All of it! I loved my internship there. I am really interested in fashion, and it was great working at a place that does almost everything in-house. GUESS? has everything from design to advertising at their headquarters, and it was really great to see how all of those elements work and come together.
HC: Â What was the application process like?
CF: Â I applied online and was then contacted by a recruiter. I did a phone interview with the recruiter and then had a Skype interview with the Events Manager and the Director of Public Relations. It was a bit nerve racking, but a great experience.
HC: Â How did you like living in L.A.?
CF: Â I loved it! The only thing that I didn’t like was all of the traffic. But, there is always so much to do there. It’s a really great place. I plan on moving back once I graduate.
HC: Â Any celebrity run ins?
CF:  A lot more than I thought there would be! Meagan Good actually lived in my building. I also saw Jesse Metcalfe (from John Tucker Must Die), ate dinner across from Demi Moore once, and I got a picture with Tyler, the Creator.
HC: Â You are currently interning for Spotify. How cool is that?
CF: Â I am! I’m currently one of Spotify’s Campus Influencers for the U.
HC: Â What made you want to work for Spotify?Â
CF: Â I love music; it has always been a huge part of my life, and Spotify is the app I use to listen to music. Why not kill two birds with one stone and combine work with something that you love?
HC: Â Tell us about the current project Spotify is working on.
CF: Â Currently, Spotify is doing a contest with Sound Clash. If you are in a student club or organization, you can make a 15 song playlist and register it to the Sound Clash/Spotify website. The organization or club with the most playlist followers can win up to $5,000! If your group would like to register, enter here!
