How to Recover From Post Spring Break Depression

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Everyone is coming home from Spring Break, and whether you went to a tropical island or decided to hit the slopes, you’re bound to feel a wave of sadness knowing your paradise week is over and you have to go back to focusing on school. While it’s very hard to try and hit the books when you’d much rather be hitting the beach, here are a couple tips on how to push through the rest of the semester.

1. Use the mental image of sand between your toes as motivation.

The weather is starting to warm up again, which can make it even harder to sit through a class when you’d rather be outside soaking up the sun. However, you can also use that antsy feeling to your advantage. Summer is less than 2 months away! Remind yourself that all you have to do in order to reach your sun-kissed freedom is get through a little studying and then finals.

2. Do your studying at the library.

Surrounding yourself in a quiet area can help to minimize distractions when it comes time for you to study. The library also comes with the benefit of on-the-go snacks and coffee at Mom’s Cafe for when you need a study break or a caffeine boost!

3. Get active.

Exercising regularly can help to reduce your stress and give you that summer bod. Especially if you’re eager to get outside, there are exercises you can do outside the gym like running or outdoor yoga.

4. Use your Spring Break vacation spot as inspiration in your studies.

Have a big essay coming up? Going on vacation has been proven to clear the mind of writer’s block and increase flow of creativity. So no matter what your assignment or prompt may be, use your newfound clarity to bring life into your writing.

5. Go to class.

Even if there’s that one class that nobody goes to because the lectures are all online, go. Going to class consistently even if only for a week or two can help your body ease back into your school routine. Getting up and going out as opposed to sleeping in and going to your later classes will keep your body in vacation mode, making it harder for you to be productive and motivated.

Remember guys, we’re all going through post Spring Break depression together. And trust me, you’ll be much happier this summer when you ace your finals as opposed to wishing you had studied for that test instead of laying in bed scrolling through you Instagram feed.
