Jose Remes is as genuine and cool as they come; unafraid to get excited about his favorite things and open up about how much he treasures the people in his life. He’s an actor and a writing major with a passion for storytelling and a special place in his heart for the California coastline. Jose is openminded and always eager to try new things, but if you’re in the mood to cuddle up with some Thai food take-out and Netflix, he’s game. But only if he gets to be the little spoon!
Name: Jose Remes
Hometown: Hollywood, CA
Graduation Year: 2018
Major:Â Acting, Writing and Rhetoric Studies
Campus Activities: I’m trying out to be a beater for the Crimson Flyers Quidditch team. I’ve thought about joining the board game club, and I also just got into D&D.
Relationship Status: Single
Boxers or briefs? Briefs, for sure. Note: He showed me his briefs, they looked comfy!
Meet Jose:
Describe yourself in 3 words. Genuine, honest, a little misunderstood.
What is your dream job? A marine biologist. If I could be paid to scuba dive everyday to find sunken ships or new species, being in the water is the most incredible thing. It’s so peaceful! Back in L.A. I’d go to the beach every weekend.
What are 3 things you can’t live without? Netflix (I’m really hooked on Charmed), movies, and my best friends. I have seven best friends and I don’t know what I would do without them.
Favorite food? I eat anything and everything, I’m really big into trying new foods, but I’d have to say Thai food.
What is your party anthem? It depends on my night, but I’m going to have to go with “Dance Kaduro” by Pitbull.
What is your guilty pleasure TV show or movie? Twilight. There’s something about Kristen Stewart, and it really got me into the whole vampire thing. [Whispers] I read the books too. But the way they shot the first movie is absolutely incredible. The music was great too.
What is your favorite late night snack? I love popcorn. I’m always watching TV and movies, so popcorn is the best. About a year ago I started buying nacho cheese in the movie theater and dipping the popcorn in it. It’s incredible, and it’s part of a pretty healthy diet plan too!
Who are your celeb crush(es)? I’ll say two guys and two girls. Natalie Portman because I love her work, Meryl Streep, the late Heath Ledger, and either Daniel Day Lewis or Benedict Cumberbatch, I can’t choose.
Do you have any secret talents? I’m a pitcher. I was throwing 85 m.p.h. by my sophomore year. Also, most people don’t know I’m Hispanic, but I speak Spanish.
What is your most embarrassing moment or story? I have so many, I’m such a klutz! I think my most embarrassing one was this time when I was 13-years-old. I was talking in front of 2,000 people in a church becauseI had a speech to read after the priest spoke. I was so nervous I reread the piece that the priest had already read. I just kept going, and the priest came up and stopped me – I got so scared that I just ran off. All 2,000 people were laughing at me. I haven’t gone back to that church since.

Campus Life:
What is your best U of U memory? This interview tops everything I’ve done (Her Campus Utah is honored!). Since I just got here I don’t have many, but the other night I went to Crimson Nights. Everyone was jumping, people were carrying each other, it was crazy!Â
What’s your favorite class you have taken at the U? The acting classes are great, but if we’re talking about a traditional class, I’d go with Business 1050 with Dunie. His philosophy and views on life are incredible.
Best study spot? On the grass, under a tree.
Dating Life:
Biggest turn on:Â Freckles.
Biggest turn off: When someone is too shy to say what’s really on their mind.Â
What do you look for in a girl? Someone who’s not afraid to be honest and doesn’t take sh*t from anybody.
Describe your ideal date. I absolutely love Disneyland! It’d be the cutest, most romantic spot for a date.
Big spoon or little spoon? I really enjoy being the big spoon, but I end up being the little spoon a lot of the time. It’s much cozier, but considering I’m like 6’3 it’s a little strange.
What’s the nicest thing you’ve ever done for a girl? I serenaded my girlfriend with a Frank Sinatra song on her birthday.
What is a girl trend you hate/don’t understand? People are bringing back the high waisted shorts with their butt cheeks hanging out. I respect a woman’s decision to get creative, but I don’t like them.
U of U girls are the best because… All the girls are so unique from each other. Everyone has her own style here.
