I’m sure I’m not the only one to enjoy attending concerts: the pounding beat, the pulsating crowd, and the unbelievable feeling of being surrounded by people who love and appreciate music just as much as you do. Now imagine being able to take part in that every single weekend: welcome to the life of Meera Masud. An intern at Simmons Media Group, Meera works with every big-wig radio station in Utah that you could possibly think of, spending almost every weekend at remotes and overseeing concerts. She’s helped to organize numerous concerts all over Utah such as Summer Jam, the recent Big Ass Show, and the infamous Twilight Series that always attracts hordes of concert-goers each summer (myself included!). It’s at these concerts that Meera has had the opportunity to meet countless bands and musicians including Neon Trees, Of Monsters and Men, and J Cole.
While very few can say they’ve met over 20 famous musicians in the last six months, Meera isn’t just in it for free concert tickets. A junior at the U, she’s currently taking classes in broadcasting and communication and is the Promotions Director of the U’s own popular radio station K-Ute. It’s here that she hosts her own hip hop radio show aptly named “Hop&Love” and strives to fulfill her dream of dominating the music industry as a radio personality. Says Meera: “I’m looking to empower women in the music industry. Women haven’t always taken such a vocal role in this business, and I’m looking to change that.”
