Quinn Martz: Collegiate Development Consultant

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

In our Her Story series, Her Campus Utah had the opportunity to sit down with Quinn Martz, who was selected to represent Delta Gamma as a Collegiate Development Consultant. Quinn has been a member of Delta Gamma since the Fall of 2014. She has held several positions within Delta Gamma including Director of Public Relations, Vice President Programming, and Chapter President. Quinn will be graduating this spring with a Strategic Communications major and a minor in Art Technology.

Her Campus: What has been your favorite part of being a Delta Gamma?

Quinn: My favorite Delta Gamma experience has been serving in my leadership roles. I have had the opportunity to work with so many incredible women- other leaders in my chapter, women from other Delta Gamma chapters around the country, advisors, and even leaders from other Greek organizations on our campus. I created amazing friendships and with supportive, inspiring, and motivated individuals who encouraged me to be an authentic leader and woman.

Her Campus: How did you find out about the Collegiate Development Consultant position?

Quinn: Each year a CDC came to visit our chapter. We have women from the chapter volunteer to show her around and spend time with her! I loved doing this and learning about their job, and their various Delta Gamma backgrounds and experiences. Three women before me from the Beta Gamma chapter at the University of Utah have gone on to be CDCs- Teresa Pond, Lexie Maschoff, and Madison Estes. It was amazing to watch them represent our chapter and the fraternity across the country. I admire each of them as Delta Gammas, sisters, and leaders, and I am so excited to be able to share this experience with them!

Her Campus: For those that don’t know, what is a Collegiate Development Consultant? What are your responsibilities as a national consultant?

Quinn: As a CDC, I will act as a communications and public relations liaison for Delta Gamma Fraternity. I will travel to chapters across the country working with their chapter officers, advisors, and University administrators to help their chapter learn and grow. Each chapter is unique, so I will have the opportunity to experience their chapter and campus culture, traditions, and sisterhood first hand. I can assist with anything the chapter may need help with! Recruitment, finances, programming, officer transitions, rituals– I will be equipped to help with it all.

Her Campus: What do you think your most significant challenges will be with this position?

Quinn: It will be an adjustment to live out of a suitcase! I will constantly be on the move, meeting new people, and facing new challenges each day. It will be a great growing and learning experience.

Her Campus: What do you hope to achieve as a Collegiate Development Consultant?

Quinn: I am looking forward developing new relationships and traveling to new places. I hope to gain a new perspective, develop new leadership skills, and be adaptable in this role.

Her Campus: What is the most valuable lesson you have learned during your time at the University of Utah?

Quinn: This experience is everything that you make of it. The more effort you put in, the more you will get out. As an out of state student, I had to build a new life and home for myself at the U. I learned to put myself out there in search of what was right for me! I did everything that I could in this four year period and made the best of it. Make this place your home and take advantage of all of the opportunities in front of you!

Her Campus: What advice would you give to freshmen or incoming students who want to get involved on campus?

Quinn: Be comfortable with being uncomfortable! Getting involved on campus is so rewarding and will provide you with both professional and fun experiences. It is the best way to develop relationships and make connections. If something doesn’t work out, go on and try something else!

Quinn moved from Thousand Oaks, California and made the University of Utah her home by being involved on campus. Quinn has worked as a Campus Life Mentor, University of Utah Baseball team intern, and as a Peer Advisor in the Department of Communication. Quinn even spent a semester abroad in Rome, Italy! We can’t wait to see what Quinn does next as she explores her new role within Delta Gamma and continues to empower women!
