Monday’s shooter was brought into custody, according to an alert sent out by the U.
The alleged gunman, Austin Boutain, shot his victim during a car hijacking. The victim was Chinese international computer science student, ChenWei Guo. The university said, âWeâre absolutely heart-stricken by the loss of student ChenWei Guo. He was âextraordinarily outgoing, creative, smart and extremely engaged.” Guo’s attacker is also wanted in Colorado, according to police.
President Pershing sent out a mass e-mail alerting students of this “senseless, random act of violence.” He said they are working with Guo’s parents to bring them to Utah.
Classes were cancelled in honor of this devastating loss. Student facilities such as the Counseling Center have remained open.
