Dogs are known for being unconditionally loving, which, by definition, is known as “true love.” They care ultimately about the happiness of their owner without any sort of regard to their own. Now, who doesn’t want a companion in their life like that? Dog lovers and dog owners are especially aware of this type of relationship and it is why their dog usually ends up being their best friend, whether they realize it or not.
I am writing this and thinking about my best friend that I recently lost and just how much he had an impact on my life. My golden retriever, Vincent, was without a doubt my best bud. I am still blessed with another companion luckily, a redbone coonhound (like from Where the Red Fern Grows… I know, cue the tears), named Sadie. Growing up with dogs, I have come to realize that they are just like humans, actually probably better, and whoever disagrees has not owned a dog. This article explains why and how your dog really is your best friend and I am writing it as Sadie sits by my side (I know, adorable).
When you are home alone, but you don’t consider yourself actually “alone.” You look forward to being home alone and getting to spend time with your dog. You even find yourself asking how their day went. Yes, you know they won’t respond, but you know for a fact that they are listening to you and responding telepathically.
You cry to them about your problems. They may not give you advice on how to handle things, but they are the best shoulder, or ball of fur, to cry on. You pull the ultimate Disney Princess move and throw yourself on top of them, and they just accept it. Little did you know that loving kisses and nuzzles from a furry friend was all you needed to feel better about your problems.
They know all of your secrets. You can go on and on to them about things you can’t tell anyone else and you know that they won’t tell an absolute soul.
They don’t judge you. Going back to the unconditional love that dogs have for their companions, your dog will never stop loving you no matter how many issues you may have. You are their best friend and their whole world, and they will let you know that.
They are your number one priority. Your boyfriend or roommate may even be a little jealous of you and your dogs relationship. Everyone knows that your dog will always surpass everyone else’s feelings. If your dog is going to be alone on a Friday night, you’d rather stay in because you don’t want them to get lonely and miss you too much. You know you’d be missing them, too.
You and your pet are without a doubt each other’s ride or dies. So much so that your dog is even starting to look like you, and that’s O.K. because that makes you guys even more of a cuter pair. Who needs real friends when you have your dog who will love you no matter what? Dogs over everything, I say.
