I have competed in sports since I was young. One thing I always noticed was no matter how good the girls teams were, they were never as popular as boys.In my high school, this was somewhat noticeable. Most people went to sports games so they would have something to do or so they wouldn’t have to go home.

Often times coaches would bring their team to watch the events after the practice, no matter if it was boys or girls. In college, people have more freedom to come and go as they please, and the sports teams hardly support each other. I found this out very quickly my freshman year. For example, the girls hockey team at my school is amazing. They won all their games and made it to the championship. The boys on the other hand, were not nearly as good, but they had twice the support. The same is evident in basketball. At my school girls and boys play the same day, with boys usually going first.  People will flock in to watch the boys play and 75% of them will leave before the girls even warm up.

So why do people like going to male sports events better?  Some say it’s better because it is more aggressive or action packed. But, I think they should be supported evenly; Or if girls have better skill, than they should be acknowledged. Girls shouldn’t be discouraged to play sports if they see no one supports them. Having close people that support what you do matters the most.
