Hair is such a great form of self-expression. Women and men have used hair as forms of self-expression long before us. It can be such a broad topic, but for the purpose of this article, I will be focusing on hair bleaching. There are many opinions formed by people when you mention bleaching your hair. The reaction I always get and hear from others is that it is so damaging and that it ruins your hair. I’ve experimented enough with my hair to know how bleach and dye work with my hair.
A brief hair history of my hair; I started off doing subtle blonde ombres then decided to go to a salon for a switch up and have purple in place of the blonde. I then took matters into my own hands and bleached it slightly, but got too scared to leave it on for as long as it was needed. So, I went to a salon and had them just bleach it for me. That ruined my hair because they carelessly over processed it and I was not old enough to realize that at the time. However, I ended up dying it a fuchsia color and loved it. Years later, I went from brown, to almost blonde, and most recently I could not help but go back to pink. My hair is normally lighter and is simply straight.
Here are some of the things I have learned on this hair color journey over the years. Bleaching can be done correctly without damage. You need to find the right hair stylist and learn that it takes time for some people’s hair color to get as light as they may want. I oftentimes hear many saying that they’re going to apply a hair dye color like red or blue to their natural hair. This works if you’re a very light brown or blonde. However, if you have dark hair it just will not work.
I have learned to love doing things to my hair no matter how little or drastic it is. It is something that you can have fun with and play around with for as long as you want. After all, it does just grow back!
