I have always loved birthdays. The candles, the cake, the presents, and the excitement of the day all fill me with joy when I wake up. My 21st birthday was on March 4th, and I will honestly say it was an overall great day, even with the midterm I had to take.

I love walking down the party isles at Target and Walmart. Birthdays just make so excited. I really think that they are something to be celebrated. Whether you have a little cupcake and light a candle for yourself or you have a big cake to share with family and friends, birthdays are something to celebrate. I have always loved The American Cancer Society’s mission to see a world with less cancer and more birthdays. I am also a cancer survivor, so I really take that mission statement to heart. This year for my birthday I am making it a goal for me to raise over $500 for Relay for Life. Thus far, I have a little over $100.

A tradition that my mom and I used to do is go clothes shopping and buy a “birthday outfit”. This year I have been feeling pretty unmotivated and stressed out. Honestly, I was about to overlook my birthday this year. However, I was at the mall and I walked into Hollister and noticed they had an extra 30% off sale items, so I took a look around and found a really cute floral Capri jumpsuit. Not going to lie, it was a little out of my comfort zone as to what I would normally wear, but I ended up loving it. Along with the jumpsuit, I also wore birthday socks and a birthday headband that my mom got for me.

My birthday was on a Monday, and I had a night class at 6 p.m. in which I had to take a midterm. I tried to study all day for it, but I get distracted easily and did not study as much as I wished I had. Overall though, I think I did pretty well on it. After my night class, my boyfriend came over and gave me my present. Of course, I made him take a lot of pictures. We went to Applebee’s for dinner and I had my first legal drink!

Birthdays always make me excited, I feel like a birthday has to be celebrated. Milestone birthdays, such as my 21st have always been a big deal to me because I begin to gain more freedom and responsibilities, even though being an adult kinda sucks!

Meet Bianca, I am currently a Junior at Utica College in Utica, NY.  I am a Criminal Justice major with a concentration in Homeland Security.  Crime investigation has always been something that interests me.  I’m dedicated and passionate and it’s hard for me to quit things. I get that from my father so don’t hold it against me- he was a veteran and police officer for 20 years.   Growing up in a family centered around law enforcement has helped guide me in this direction, and I will forever be grateful.  After graduation I intend to continue on to law school where I can further my education in hopes of becoming a criminal defense lawyer and later on a District Attorney.  An interesting fact about myself is that I found the passion to be a criminal defense lawyer from watching the O.J. Simpson case.  The facts and conspiracy theories evoked a whole new passion behind criminal investigation that I intend to use in my future.  One of my most prominent moments in my writing career was when I wrote for an online magazine and had my most prevalent article hit 1.6k shares.  I believe in treating people with the same kind of respect and manners you would expect in return, and in a way it has helped shaped my expectations in life.   When you first meet me I won’t be the loudest in the room or the center of attention, but I will be intently listening to everything you say, for what you have to say may have a purpose. I believe in purpose. I believe that everyone is here to help you grow into who you are today and who you will be tomorrow.
