I am sad that my time is coming to an end at the University of Tennessee at Martin. I only have a couple of more weeks until graduation. I’m glad that I choose to transfer here to UTM my sophomore year, and I am even more glad that I choose Criminal Justice as my field of study.
My freshman year at my first university I was a nursing major. I choose that as my major because I wanted to please everyone else. After all, nursing is not a dangerous career choice, and I would always have a job in that field. But when it came to take the classes for Nursing, I realized it was not for me. I have always had an interest in Criminal Justice, and I have wanted to be a lawyer since I was seven, but that is not what I want to be now. I want to become a juvenile probation officer and help the kids who are in the system already. I want to be someone that they can maybe look up to. It sounds more like I should be a social worker, but I feel that children who are in the Criminal Justice System sometimes get overlooked, which is why I want to be a juvenile probation officer.
If you are wanting to major in Criminal Justice, I say go for it. There is more you can do than being a police officer or a lawyer. The class are fun and challenging. You will meet a lot of great people. There are fun things to do within the major: there are honor societies and clubs to join. There are guest speakers and so much more. Like nursing, there will always be jobs in the Criminal Justice field.
So, if this is what you are wanting to major in, do it because I have enjoyed it a lot.
