Kaylee Pirrotta-Rivera, 17-year-old Senior, had the inspiration of recreating her mother’s senior portrait as a high schooler. Rivera decided to recreate the picture now that she is the same age as her mother was in the photo. Having lost her mother four years ago, Rivera found a creative way to honor her late mother.
After an hour doing her makeup and styling herself, Rivera’s final look left thousands of people on Twitter stunned. The tweet currently has 28,448 retweets and 172,147 likes.
Rivera styled herself with similar shiny earrings she borrowed from her grandmother and a red feather boa she purchased at a store.
She mentioned her mother was a cosmetologist who practiced on her when she was a little girl.
“I grew up being her doll when she did my hair and makeup,” said Rivera in an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle.
This story is so interesting to me because my mother also has a photo of herself that she took at a photo-shoot where she is in front of a gray/blue backdrop. In the photo she is wearing a blue-feathered top with pearl earrings.
My mom took that photo when she was 24 years old, while also studying for cosmetology. Just like Rivera, I’ve grown fond of that picture of my mother when she was young ever since I was a little girl.
Now that I see Rivera recreate her mother’s glam photo-shoot picture, I also feel compelled to recreate my mom’s picture when I turn 24.
