4 Ways to Make Your Apartment More Homey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Coming home to an apartment that actually feels like home is an amazing feeling. It can be hard to achieve a homey feel in a college apartment though. Here are some ways you can make your apartment feel more like home.

1.   Family Pictures

One of the most inexpensive ways to make your apartment cozier is adding pictures. So proudly display all of those apartment family pictures around your place. Adding pictures of your friends can serve as a nice reminder of memories when you come home after a long day.

2.   Add Some Throw Blankets

Stop by T.J Maxx and invest in some throw blankets for your couch. They will provide both a pop of colour and comfort. Plus, it is always nice to have a blanket already on the couch for movie nights and impromptu napping.

3.   Add Plants

Bring some plants into your apartment. They don’t even have to be real. Even a faux plant can still add a nice amount of greenery and life. If you are bold enough to try and keep a real plant alive in your apartment try to set specific days and times to water it instead of sporadically deciding to water the plant.

4.   Customize a Place to Put your Keys

Hang customized hooks or decorate bins to put keys, wallets, and other things when you come into the apartment. This is an easy and practical way to customize your apartment in a creative and unique way.

College apartments or dorms don’t always have to be dingy. Even on a budget you can make your apartment really feel like home. Hopefully some of the ideas inspire you to customize and decorate your own place!
