A blonde yesterday, and oops a brunette again today? Beautiful, shining, gold locks have always seemed to be the token choice for my friend groups. I couldn’t help but sometimes feel that my dark brown hair was just…blah. Blonde hair has always been somewhat idolized by the media, I mean Regina George (the blonde) was the leader of her mean girl pact. Super stars even always seem to rock vibrant blonde locks…or in the case of Katy Perry, pink hair even won out over brown. So what did I decide to do? Something that made my mother’s jaw drop upon first glance. For a quick moment in my life I became a follower not a leader.  I, the token brunette friend, crossed the border into Blondeville. Did I love it? Kind of. Was it me? Not so much. I quickly lost track of how many people gave me the, “wow, you are….blonde,” comment. Really everyone, as if I didn’t realize? Burning my poor hair to make it the color of everyone around me seemed like a great idea temporarily. But, as my roots creepily grew out, I quickly started to feel like I had betrayed them. I was hiding the natural beauty that had been passed down by my parents. All in place of hair color that came out of a stranger’s bottle…this wasn’t me. Not too soon after my Facebook got flooded with blonde pictures of me, I was sitting in the chair of another salon, ready to look into the mirror and see the same girl I saw when I was little. I wanted to be my natural self again. Today I proudly wear my hair, and am thrilled every time I hear the words, “I like you better with your natural hair.” Seriously girls, any hair color can be a superstar color and it really only matters how you feel within. As a note to those considering dabbling in the world of the rival hair color, be VERY careful to take good care of your hair. Bleaching dark hair to light does worse than your flat iron could dream of damaging your hair, so make sure to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Also, watch those eyebrows, your old hair color makes sure to leave its mark right in the prime time spot…your beautiful face.Â
Â
So, moral of my story? Don’t be afraid to be daring and try something new. Just make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. Guaranteed whatever hair color you are rocking is beautiful. Just make sure you don’t let your hair color rock you!Â
