Bring On the Sunshine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Rain, rain and more rain. Could this week seem anymore…gloomy? As I set out to write an article about how this weather is so incredibly drab, I realized, why make a sad situation even worse? I managed to get my work done this week, take lovely lunch breaks with the greatest friends I could hope for, and hey, now I’m writing an article after getting my nails done. Maybe it’s hard to feel the sunshine through all those clouds, but you can really lift your mood if you search for the beautiful things around you that you tend to overlook. Think of the friends you have surrounding you, the endless opportunities to make memories and think of the experiences you are gaining that you will carry on into your future. Of course this is all easier said than done when you’re sitting around in frumpy pajamas, thinking, “there is absolutely nothing to do in this weather.” But brighten up little sunshine; there are so many activities that can only be done in the rain, making you reconsider whether you want the sun to be shinning next time you wake up.

Stir up a fun meal

How often do you think, “If I had enough time in the day I would start to cook more”? Well, funny thing is, you have so much time when you don’t want to be anywhere outside.  Look in your fridge and put together a fun concoction of yummy foods. You never know what kind of recipe you could come up with, and before you know it, you have a fun dish to share with your friends.

Catch up on a classic
Don’t have anyone to cuddle with? No problem!Think of that stuffed puppy under your bed that misses some good company. There is nothing more refreshing than some time to yourself to enjoy a good, old classic movie. Let’s be real…do you really want a boy to see you tear up when Leo gets washed away? Didn’t think so.

Splash in some puddles
Yes, there may be some five year olds that like to do the same thing, but it really wasn’t too long ago that you were five. Put on those cute rain boots (we all know you’ve been dying to wear them) and splash around with some friends!Any type of movement is considered cardio, and you’ll come out of this activity looking as toned and beautiful as ever.

Treat yourself

Ever notice how the gray sky kind of makes you look just as gray? Well, great thing is, you have time to make that better! Invest your time in making a facemask (check out this article for a facemask how-to!), bask your body in a nice hot tub, or just simply paint your nails the most obnoxious color you can find. You will be amazed at how these little tweaks can exponentially change your day!

Obviously the list of activities is endless.  It’s just a matter of wrapping yourself out of that comfy blanket and starting to do what you really want.  So don’t let the next rainy day put a damper on your mood.  Stay inside, take a break from your work and realize, the precious moments you have to waste away are nothing less than a blessing.  Every cloud has a silver living.
