It is official, Cville is about to get a lot colder. Already with a forecast of snow for this week, it has now become time to break out the chunky sweaters, scarves, and mittens. To stay warm (and fashionable) at UVA, here are five trends you will definitely be seeing on Grounds in the coming colder season.
Legwarmers: Not the 1980’s, neon, about-to-do-aerobics style, but neutral-colored, cable-knit legwarmers worn with riding boots. Legwarmers can be typically found wherever shoes are sold. Some inexpensive options for legwarmers include Target, Wet Seal, and Charlotte Russe.
Plaid Scarves: Plaid is a staple pattern for the cold season and it is best when worn in a scarf. The plaid scarves that are “tartan” will be most on-trend for this season. On the more expensive-end, cashmere plaid scarves can be found at J. Crew or for an inexpensive version, try places like the Gap or Forever 21.
Bean Boots: It apparent that at UVA riding boots are a “must” in the slightest bit of chill, but for those winter days when your feet need extra warmth, bean boots or “duck” boots are necessary. Mainly sold by LL Bean (hence the name), duck boots can be found at retailers like DSW and Nordstrom.
Leggings: It is inevitable, UVA girls will wear leggings no matter the weather, but when it freezing outside it would be best to not freeze off your legs. Opt for fleece or thermal leggings for winter to stay comfortable without sacrificing your body temperature. Northface and Columbia sell thermal leggings, but for inexpensive ones try JC Penney and Forever 21.
Puffer Vests: Paired with plaid button-ups, chunky sweaters, or even sweatshirts, puffer vests will make you look put-together and, more importantly, keep you warm. Whether from LL Bean, Patagonia, Gap, Old Navy, or Target, puffer vests are an essential addition to any winter outfit.
*Bonus* Patagonia or Barbour Jackets: Â Grounds in the winter will be populated by many who are coated by Patagonia and Barbour jackets, it is unavoidable. Whether quilted or fleece, these jackets are comfortable, thermal, and trendy. However, be sure to note you will definitely not be the only one sporting one of these jackets this winter.Â
