While New York Fashion Week has been over for nearly two months now, the fashion event to end all fashion events concluded with many style-worthy moments, gorgeous street style photography, and countless new trends for all of us to rock for the rest of year. At times, the fashion and trends at NYFW may seem a bit too avant garde for the ordinary person to wear while out and about. However, with proper styling and the willingness to have fun with fashion, these trends are definitely wearable and affordable. With how stylish the UVa student body is, that should not be a problem!
Trend 1: Fringe
The 70s and bohemian trends have been incredibly popular within the past year and it seems like it will not be slowing down for the spring season! In the New York Fashion Week shows, the fringe detail was more concentrated on the hemlines of the outfits presented. UVa students can recreate this by looking for pants, skirts, and dresses with the flirty and swingy fabric. With how fun the fringe trend is, it can be dressed up or down.
Trend 2: Off the shoulder tops/dresses
This trend was huge in the spring and summer seasons during 2015. You saw it everywhere, from your friends to your favorite fashion blogger, and it is still continuing in 2016! You can find affordable off-the-shoulder tops and dresses in many stores such as Asos, Topshop, and H&M in various colors, prints, and styles.
Trend 3: Graphic, Bold Stripes
Stripes have always been a favorite trend for many, as they tend to be a flattering pattern (vertical stripes, at least!) On the runways of the NYFW shows, the pattern was very much there – and incredibly impactful! The stripes are bold and solid and are certainly made to catch the eye. If UVa students want to get in on this wowing trend, they should expect to see it on blazers, pants, Oxford shirts, dresses and skirts. This is a great pattern to mix and match for events such as football games and Foxfield.
Trend 4: Pajamas
Very much on with the comfort trend that has overtaken fashion recently (but really, are we complaining?), this trend, which surged in popularity in 2013, has returned with a force in 2015 and continues into 2016. From fashion bloggers like Rumi Neely to celebrity fashionistas like Rihanna, the pajama trend has gone from the runways to the streets. UVa students can rock both sets, or pick and choose which part of the pajamas they would like to wear. While pajamas scream casual and comfortable, they can certainly be dressed up by being worn with heels, bold accessories, and a luxurious fabric. This trend will not be for everyone, but for those willing to try it out, expect to see pajama-inspired pieces in stores such as Zara, Topshop, and Forever21.
