The Six Stages of Reacting to Kylie Jenner’s Birth Announcement

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

On February 4 for many people the Superbowl was eclipsed by the confirmation that Kylie Jenner was pregnant and news that she had given birth to a baby girl on February 1. After months of speculation, some intense Instagram and Snapchat decoding, and confirmation of Khloe Kardashian’s own rumored pregnancy I expected to feel relief that I could finally stop being so invested in Kylie Jenner. I did not expect my other reactions.

1.   Excitement

I ran into my roommate’s room and proceeded to read Kylie’s birth announcement aloud to her without any context. We were all right. It wasn’t some weird publicity stunt. Kylie was not secretly Kim’s surrogate.

2.   Relief

The waiting, the wondering, the annoyance at the fact that we cared; it could all finally end. The truth had been revealed and I could return to my life of minimal involvement with Kylie and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenners.

3.   Annoyance

We still don’t know anything about this baby besides that it’s a girl. What’s her name? Will we see a picture of her? Why do I still care? By withholding information all these months Kylie has made me more invested in a Kardashian-Jenner baby than I have been since I watched Kourtney physically pull Mason out of herself. I never asked for this.

4.   Curiosity

Just a few minutes after the Instagram announcement, Kylie tweeted a video called “For Our Daughter” with the caption: “here’s a little glimpse of the last 9 months.. ❤️” At this point I knew my level of personal investment was through the roof and I drove in with no regrets or shame.

5.   Happiness

Guys, that video was beautiful. If you have not seen it, watch it. Kylie and her friends and family are overjoyed in every second. I cried and I am not the only one I know who did.

6.   Acceptance

I feel some level of investment in this child now. I forgive Kylie for stringing us along. I can go back to my life, but not unchanged by this experience.(all reaction gifs courtesy of giphy.com)
