Midterm season is around the corner, and with it comes the impending mad dash to the libraries. If you’re looking for a new place to dash to, here are some great spaces you should check out on you quest to find the perfect study spot.
1. McGregor Room
Location: Alderman Library, Second Floor
The McGregor room is the perfect place to both study and feel like you’re attending Hogwarts. It’s also known for being really quiet, so make sure you don’t bring any loud snacks with you!
2. Music Library
Location: Lower floors of Old Cabell Hall
Although the décor is a little questionable, the smell of old books that permeates the Music Library gives it a very studious ambiance. It’s also located in one of the oldest buildings on grounds, which will make you feel like you’re taking part in a little bit of history.
3. Fine Arts Library
Location: Architecture School
The Fine Arts Library is a great space for students looking for a change of pace, and especially for students living behind the corner. It also features the Fine Arts Café, which just introduced a Meal Exchange program that is active Monday through Friday.
4. Clark Blue Room
Location: Clark Stacks
A modern room in an older library, the Clark blue room has all the features you’d want in a study space: white boards, individual desks with overhead desk lamps, and outlets galore. What else could you need?
5. Wilson Hall
Location: First and Second Floors of Wilson
With the recently completed Wilson Hall Renewal project, the lower floors of Wilson offer a great modern study space. There are also a few great study rooms that can be booked and used by students.
6. Top floor Gilmer
Location: Gilmer Hall
This is a great place in central grounds with both a lounge area for reading and a desk area for more serious studying. It is also right next-door to Wilsdorf Cafe, if you’re in need of a little caffeine kick.
7. Alderman Stacks
Location: Back of Alderman Library
Alderman Stacks are perfect for when you really need to hunker down and get your work done. The individual desks, coupled with the rows and rows of books, make the space very private, and you can almost always find a free desk somewhere.
8. Special Collections Library
Location: Alderman Quad
Despite “library” being in the name, most students don’t know that the Special Collections Library, which houses a small museum and some of UVA’s rarest books and documents, also has great study spaces for students. The beauty of this spot is that not many people know about it, so don’t tell too many of your friends!
