Virginia Film Festival’s Creepiest Films Ever

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

The 2019 Virginia Film Festival is the festival’s 32nd year running! As always, tickets are free for U.V.a. Students through Arts Dollars. This year, the film festival runs right before Halloween, so naturally three thrilling horror films are in order.

In Fabric

A freshly-divorced London woman starts to feel herself again in a new gown, but it begins to leave lesions on her skin as it becomes her adversary. This film is particularly frightening because it hits home– what are we supposed to do if our favorite coats run our lives as we take them out for the winter?

Swallow

Hunter spends her days in a glass house, doing chores and playing iPhone games until she learns she is pregnant and develops pica, and soon she is unable to stop controlling what goes into her mouth. The beautiful cinematography of the film makes the creepiness all the more subtle.

Deerskin

George’s prized possession, a deerskin jacket, begins talking to him and giving him instructions to eliminate other things in his life. The film calls into question the ethics in what we use and what we wear, making it realistically frightening.

All of these films will be shown in the Witching Hours of October 25th from 8:30pm-12am and October 26th at 11pm on Grounds in Newcomb Theater. A free Arts Dollars ticket (and maybe a costume) is all you need to get in.
