Walk of ShameLESS

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Walking back from your boyfriend’s place or just a sleepover with some girlfriends, but don’t want to get shameful looks from people passing you by on your walk home? Here are some tips on how to make your walk of shame, whether shameful or not, absolutely shameless!

1) Boy Scout Motto—Be Prepared
College is such a wonderful time in the sense that you can be studying in the library one minute, then whisked off for late night taco bell run with friends, hitting up frats or bars, or having a meaning of life chat on the porch of your friend’s apartment. Since everyone lives all over the place, it’s smart to pack essentials in your bag when you go out in case you end up crashing elsewhere. Breath mints or gum are a staple, but nowadways with cute clutches and cross body bags you definitely have room for a small compact of bronzer, or Olay Daily Facial cleansing wipes. Use the cleansing wipes at night to clean your skin and again in the morning to remove any trace of raccoon eyes in the morning. Then use the brush to swirl some glow on your cheeks to keep you looking fresh!

2) Save your feet!
No one needs to wear 3 inch stilettos home the next morning so try the next best alternative and invest in flats in a bag! All night you can stash this small, comfortable bag in your clutch while wearing your sexy heels, and then the next morning you can save your feet by slipping on the flats! Bonus, the bag unfolds to a larger trendy tote bag that you can place your heels in. Check out the link for more details. Flats come in black, gold, and silver. A must have for any city girl or campus girl where you’re always walking. (also critical for summer internships in DC or New York)

3) Take off the bling.
Bold statement pieces and flashy earrings easily transform our outfits into “going out” ready, but wearing them the next day clearly tells everyone you did not return home last night. Leave simple pieces on to remain polished, but huge sparkly earrings or big necklaces of the same sort, take off and store in your bag.

4) Do the twist.
Most likely you don’t have a brush to tame flyaway’s or any frizz so I recommend twisting hair back to appear fresh and hide greasy hair. Part your hair naturally then take one side and twist it back keeping it tight, use bobby pins to secure. Repeat the same to the other side. Then gather hair into a loose bun at the back and voila you’re ready!

5) Confidence
Honestly most of our supposed walk of shames are just coming back from a friends after crashing post late night because your apartment is just too far to walk back to, or even a matter of safety where it’s not safe to walk back solo. No matter what you’re coming back from just follow these tips and walk home with confidence. It’s college after all and no one knows what your deal is except for you, and with these tips no one will even suspect anything. You’ll look so fresh they’ll think you woke up early to be that go-getter you are! Hello sunshine, your walk just became a shameless success!
