As graduation quickly approaches, I am feeling nothing but nostalgia during my last couple of weeks here at the University of Vermont. As crazy and hard as these past four years have been, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to go to school here and be a part of the community I have built. At the beginning, I struggled a lot here, as I am inherently a homebody and missed my family and dogs. However, being outside of my comfort zone has brought me the greatest friends and mentors that I could ever imagine, and for that I am incredibly grateful.
My biggest advice for living your best life at UVM is to explore. Whether that be within the city of Burlington or within UVM and the clubs and extracurricular activities they have here. I have met some of the greatest people just from joining the Group Fitness Program through UVM Campus Rec. Take advantage of the âfreeâ stuff, like tutoring, events, and other activities. Just like the clichĂ© says, life is what you make it. You get out of UVM what you put in, and, considering that there is a lot to offer, I suggest you absolutely take advantage of everything here. Although there have been highs and lows in my time here at UVM, I attribute much of my success to the support of my fellow biomedical engineers, my mentors, and my amazing friends that I have met along the way.
Because I will be leaving soon, I wanted to do everything that UVM and Burlington had to offer. As part of the last couple of months at UVM, I have compiled a bucket list that I feel every student should accomplish by the end of their time at UVM. So, here it is:
UVM Bucket List:
- Â Picnic at the waterfront
- Â Go sledding
- Â Take a nature walk through Centennial Field
- Â Go to Foam Brewery once (or 10 times – your choice)
- Â Shelburne Orchards Wine Tasting
- Â Take a walk on the causeway
- Â Step foot in at least most of the buildings at UVM
- Â Attend Spring Fest
- Â Go to sports games (Hockey is my favorite)
- Â Hungover bagels with your friends
- Â Hammock on campus or downtown
- Â Go to the Worldâs Tallest Filing Cabinet
- Â Swim in the fountain
- Â Have a dinner party with your closest friends
- Â Pay respects to the bus ball memorial
- Â Go to Montreal
- Â Hot girl walk to the waterfront for sunset
- Â Go thrifting downtown
- Â Hike a mountain (Mansfield or Mount Philo)
- Â Swim in Lake Champlain
- Â Go to Red Rocks
- Â Late night library session
- Â High-five Rally Cat
- Â Go to Redstone in late April (if you know, you know)
- Â Walk along Church Street
- Â Try Skiing
I am so grateful for my time here at UVM and with UVM HER Campus and hope you enjoyed reading my articles as much as I enjoyed writing them. Bye for now.
With love,
Emily Day
