Have you ever been in your 7:45am lecture and see that one individual that is always pulled together and ready to go for the day? If not, you might be that person, however for those few that aren’t I have found a secret for you that may be exactly what you are looking for to refocus and feel energized in the morning: Yoga.
Now I am not talking about having to go out of your way to get some tree stances in, but some simple beginner level moves you can do in the comfort of your dorm room, living room, or anywhere you wish will do.
The benefits of Yoga in the morning are endless:
– You will be peaceful, all day long. Practicing yoga early in the morning will set the tone for your whole day.
– Stay energized and focus for what’s to come.
– You will look younger. The stretching in yoga makes your body tighter, lighter, and brighter.
– You can eat more that day. According to GAIAM, yoga helps speed up your metabolic rate, which means that you can eat more and burn calories faster.
– Early morning yoga helps to build a healthy, consistent exercise routine.
– Early morning yoga regulates your sleep rhythm.
– And much more!
I would say my favorite thing about doing my yoga in the morning is that all day you can think, “Wow, I already did yoga today…I’m awesome.” Your days are so busy, and your time is valuable. It’s tough to fit in a yoga class during the middle of the day, and by the evening you may have unexpected plans or you may feel too tired. Therefore, if you don’t get to the gym, maybe for your lifting session, at least you know you have some sort of exercise in already this morning. Also, the feeling of self-empowerment that comes from being disciplined in your routine will bring mental strength into other areas of your life as well. By making the choice to wake up early and treat yourself to yoga, you can have that sense of accomplishment all day long.
So now you know the benefits of doing morning yoga, but where do you begin?
Well lucky enough for you the Her Campus of Lax put together a Pinterest board of their favorite Yoga poses, which include pictures, videos and some other benefits. Join the Her Campus of Lax team on their Hello..YOGA board.
However, some of us aren’t the at-home-workout types of people, which is alright. Lucky enough, being UW-La Crosse students, we are given the opportunity to have yoga classes at the tip of our fingers. If you have any question about what classes the Rec Center offers swing by the front desk and see when classes are offered and get some more information.Â
So start your morning off right with yoga and get ready to be a better you!Â
