On February 16, last Friday, I was lucky to be able to watch my sister, Lauryn, participate in the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics. After completing two Polar Plunges of my own, I was excited to witness her first time jumping into the frigid waters of Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Her reaction to the freezing waters was priceless, as she emerged in shock of the temperature and her frozen limbs. She hastily climbed up the stairs to freedom out and away from the cold and sprinted towards the hot tubs (as fast as her numb body could take her). The whole experience only lasts a few minutes, but the memories and the good emerging from the plunge lasts a lifetime.
The Polar Plunge is definitely a bucket list moment worth completing, especially because of the good cause that the money raised goes to. All proceeds go towards Special Olympics, further funding an organization that brings joy to so many people. Those memories and experiences are cherished, and it is so important to ensure that they continue.
If you are looking for a way to give back to your community, consider participating in the Polar Plunge. Get family and friends involved to see how much money you can raise for Special Olympics! Overall, you donate to an amazing cause and get to experience a bucket list moment plunging into frigid waters. It’s a ton of fun! All proceeds go to local athletes.
I couldn’t be prouder of my sister and her fellow Kaukauna High School NHS students who took the plunge and raised $3,300.
