The transition from summer back to school is not an easy thing to get use. To have to go from all the freedom that summer gives you to a tight schedule like you get from college, it can be quite a bit to handle especially in the beginning. It takes some time to get use to all of the homework and studying that comes with classes that you seemed to forget all about during the past 3 months of summer. I will be the first to admit that it hasn’t been too easy for me. I’m still stuck in that care-free summer mode, but it’s time to get back to reality. Now that syllabus week is over and classes are starting to pick up it’s time to get back in the school mode. There are some things that I do that really help me get back on track!Â
1. Put together a schedule– Figure out at which times you want to do set aside for homework and studying and what times you want to relax.
2. Give yourself some breaks– Don’t forget to cut youself some slack! Give yourself a break when you need it.
3. Distract yourself- It’s so easy to find yourself looking at old pictures from the summer while wishing you could have those days back! But it’s better to be thankful they happened and not be sad that they are over. There’s no going back now, so you my as well look to the future.Â
4. Join a new club on campus– If you are missing your friends back home and from the summer, go out and make some new ones! There are so many people out here on campus at UW-L and so many different friends to be made through different clubs.Â
5. Sign up for a class at the Rec- These are perfect for when you’re watching netflix after class, while trying to forget all of the homework you have, which we are all guilty of doing. It will get you up and get you going again!Â
It might be hard to get back into the swing of school right away but by no time you’ll get the hang of things! Let’s make it a great semester and school year at UW-L! :)Â
