An Open Letter to People Who Aren’t in My Life Anymore

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Lax chapter.

Dear [fill in the blank],

Hi.

How are you?

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other, or even talked.

Maybe the distance has pulled us apart, or maybe we were never very close. But for whatever reason lately all we hear of one another is a “hey, did you hear what [fill in the blank] is doing these days?” or an occasional Facebook post.

Don’t take this is the wrong way, but I’m not bothered by this. It’s not that I wouldn’t like to see you again sometime, but I’m at a different point in my life now and so are you. We’ve grown and developed and changed, and we’ve done that without one another, and that’s okay. That’s life.

But hey, [fill in the blank]? I just want you to know that I haven’t forgotten about you. I think that there was a reason our paths crossed for the time that they did. The time we spent together and the experiences we shared have made me who I am (and maybe they did for you, too).

I think about you from time to time. Not in a creepy, stalkerish way or anything–just in a you-were-once-in-my-life sort of way. When I think back to times and places where we were together, you cross my mind. When I recollect old memories, I think of you and the times we shared.

So, [fill in the blank], I hope you’re well. Thank you for being a part of my life for however much time you were. I haven’t forgotten you and I wish you all the best.
