Why The Lumineers Should Be One of Your Favorite Bands

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Lax chapter.

You may have been flooded with your friend’s snapchat stories of their concert this past weekend or heard one of their songs on the radio years ago, but no matter what it was or how you know of them, make them your favorite band. I’m telling you, you won’t regret a single minute you spend jamming out to them and their pure awesomeness. These are the reasons I think (and I’m sure all fans can agree) why you should give them a listen:

1. You can listen to them when you’re sad.

It’s quite obvious when you first start to listen to them that their lyrics have a whole lot of emotion to them. Songs like My Eyes and Hey Ho have words and a melody that are sure to make you cry when you need a relatable song to release those feelings to.

2. You can listen to them when you’re happy.

One of the reasons I find this band so bad*** is the fact that one song can make you want to climb into bed and shed tears all night and the next can have you tapping your foot and spinning in circles. The range of songs make them a great go-to when you’re feeling all sorts of ways.

3. The lyrics are deeper than most music.

Living in a time when the music industry seems to obsess and endorse artists who sing about about drugs and alcohol, romanticizing the party and promiscuous scenes in life, The Lumineers seem to repeatedly develop real, raw, authentic lyrics. Time and time again they prove to us that music is so much more than something to throw on while in the car or at a party. It makes you feel, not hear.

4. Their music videos are profound and well thought out.

A majority of people, and even diehard fans, have missed this important aspect of their music videos. They’re actually a story! The songs are quite easy to listen to and not connect the deeper meaning to them. Cleopatra, Angela, and Sleep On the Floor actually are sequential to one another. Depending on if you want to watch them most recent to oldest or vice versa, they tell a story. You can find the same characters in each one and little hints from the previous video(s). This shows this band takes plenty of time to truly establish art, not just music.

5. They play numerous instruments.

One indicator of a talented musician in my eyes is the ability to play more than one instrument. It means they’re not just brilliant in their vocals but assist in creating their own music as well, which I find very charming about them.
