Spring break is over and you’re doing everything you can to avoid facing your responsibilities. How do you even begin to motivate and pick up where you left off? Here are 10 tips to get you started:
Â
1.)Â Make a to-do list
Each morning, write a list consisting of everything that you want to accomplish by the end of the day, in order to keep you on track.
Â
Â
2.)Â Create a calendar
Organize your week and plan ahead for your hardest days, knocking out the important stuff right away rather than procrastinating.
Â
Â
Â
3.)Â Balance your time
Be sure to put school work before socializing when you have important obligations, but don’t study so hard that you forget about the experience. Not to mention balancing sleep, exercise, and eating right. No wonder only 40% of working Americans have a college degree.
Â
Â
4.)Â Make a date with yourself
Designate a time that you are going to focus on homework and treat it like a date or an important meeting that you can’t miss.
Â
Â
Â
5.)Â Put your phone away
Let’s say you’re still on this metaphorical date. You wouldn’t be scrolling through Twitter the whole night would you? I hope not, because multitasking takes away too much attention from what’s really important, whether it be a five page paper or a hunky man.
Â
Â
6.)Â Create a good studying environment
The 5th floor of the library is a perfect atmosphere for studying, while a group session with a few classmates allows you to learn extra tips from your peers. Try to use a combination of these two study methods to reap the benefits of both.
Â
Â
7.)Â Ask for help
Classes are getting harder now that teachers are moving into the bulk of material. Find out when and where tutoring is taking place and utilize this free help. Even if you don’t have daunting questions, a tutor lab provides a great atmosphere for homework.
Â
Â
8.)Â Keep track of your grades
Check your grades frequently so that you aren’t in a panic when the end of the semester is near and you don’t like what you see.
Â
Â
9.)Â Be present
Show up to class and even participate if you’re feeling courageous. This is also going to make your professor more likely to help you out if you find yourself struggling with tip number 8.
Â
Â
10.)Â Look at the big picture
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I promise. Make a countdown if you have to, but just remember that the end of the semester is near and your grade depends on your ability to stay strong and focused until the last day of exams!
